The new Artistic Director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has been announced as Robert Battle.
A word from the company:
"Robert Battle began his association with us in 1999, when he
was commissioned
to create Mood Indigo
for Ailey
II, followed by company premieres of Takademe
and The Hunt. He first
worked with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 2003 when he created Juba for the company. In 2004, he worked
with Ms. Jamison to choreograph Love
Stories,
in which she represented the past, Rennie Harris the present, and Robert
Battle
the future! The company added his duet, Unfold to the repertory in 2007,
and this past December, In/Side
was performed during
the New York season to popular and critical
acclaim. He has also worked with the students in The Ailey School as an
artist-in-residence in 2006 and 2008."
