There’s no place in the world quite like New York City. Coming from Mediterranean climate, I’ve never lived in a place with such dramatic seasons. However, the charm of the Big Apple is undeniable, and I love living here.
I am originally from Barcelona, Spain, but I moved to New York City over 4 years ago. I like the atmosphere, the mix of cultures, the vast array of people, and all the artistic possibilities the city has to offer. There are so many shows to see, and countless unknown places and new things to discover.
The weather this week has turned extremely cold, but the frigid temperatures were not enough to keep us Trocks from working very hard at being funny. The below freezing weather made it quite difficult to get warmed up and ready to go at 9am everyday. We take a full ballet class followed by several hours of rehearsal. This was quite an exciting and successful week. We prepared all of the repertoire that we will dance in the UK. Since I joined the Trocks one year ago, some of these pieces are new for me, and I am excited to debut them! I, even, got the opportunity to begin rehearsing the Dying Swan with one of the most legendary members of Trockadero, Paul Ghiselin AKA Ida Nevasayneva. I was amazed at the amount of knowledge and understanding he possesses at style and comedic timing. It was very inspiring to work with him on such a staple to the company´s repertory.
Now, that I conclude this rehearsal week in NYC, I find it bitter sweet to leave. I must get some much needed rest before the tour, even in the city that never sleeps. But never to fear, once you become a New Yorker, you see how small it is at the same time. After all, this is such a “small world”, right? So small that the company will get there in the UK in just 8 short hours! Be sure to catch our show in the next weeks 🙂
Luggage is ready! And we are off!
